Article: Eye Level

For two years, I have been taking Argentine Tango classes,
and up to a month ago, literally I could not take a single step.
Talk about a slow learner. Every time I tried to step forward,
I stepped on my partner.

Somehow, recently I figured out, because I am tall, I look down
at my partner, which tilts my head forward and throws me off balance
keeping me from being able to lead properly. To keep my head up, I
started watching a point on the wall at my eye level,

As soon as I kept my head up, finally, after two years, like a
miracle, I was able to dance Argentine Tango. What a relief. I am
still not good, but now at least, I can get better.

The other night, I picked up a book that I had checked out of the
library months ago - yes it is over due. The book is called "Social
Dance, Steps to Success" by Judy Patterson Wright. I had read half
the book before, but decided to start over. Here is an excerpt:

"The purpose of Step 1 is to increase your awareness of
correct body posture. ... Look forward with your head erect
(it is helpful to look at an object that is at eye level)"

Funny how often we are blind to the answer to our problems.
